Travel To Gatlinburg On The Blue Ridge Parkway

Use the Blue Ridge Parkway as a means to travel to Gatlinburg to get the most pleasure from your Smoky Mountain travel route.

Travel To Gatlinburg: A section of the Blue Ridge Parkway connects Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. To travel to Gatlinburg via this route, simply follow I-40 through Asheville, NC to the Blue Ridge Parkway (Highway 191). The Blue Ridge Parkway ends in the Smoky Mountains National Park when it intersects Newfound Gap Road (Highway 441). New Found Gap Road cuts accross the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, while passing through some fabulous Smoky Mountain scenery. New Found Gap Road becomes the Gatlinburg parkway on the other side of the Smoky Mountains National Park.

Note: A pleasant sidetrip from your Gatlinburg visit is to back track the route to Asheville, NC via the Blue Ridge Parkway and visit the Vanderbilt's magnificent Biltmore Estate.

General: The Blue Ridge Parkway route follows the Appalachian Mountain chain from Shenendoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park-a distance of 469 miles. There are frequent turnouts for mountain vistas, waterfalls, picnic areas, and visitor centers. Much of the Parkway is closed in winter. The speed limit is strictly limited to 45 miles per hour, and trucks are prohibited.The South Section Auto Tour covers the last 175 miles of the parkway beginning at the visitor center at Linville Falls. The parkway passes through a series of gaps, meadows, tunnels, and scenic overlooks. Points of interest include the Museum of North Carolina Minerals, the Folk Art Center and Craggy Falls.
